When: Saturday 1st July 2017
Where: Bishop's Castle and the surrounding area
What: 32nd Bishop's Castle Tandem Triathlon
This unique event is probably the only challenge of its type in the world and certainly the only tandem triathlon you will find in the rolling Shropshire hills.
Applauded as a fantastic event for all abilities, this quirky contest has something for everyone. Inclusivity is very much at the heart of this event and tandems can, with the help of an able bodied person, assist participation by a disabled person (in particular, someone with visual impairment).
Competing as a team of two, one team member will swim 1km in the leisure centre pool and then both team members pedal furiously along a 30km road tandem ride. After that, the second team member completes a challenging 10km woodland run. A 5km tandem sprint finish completes the team's crusade.
Don't be deceived! If you want, you can simply dawdle round in fancy dress, calling at the pubs and cafes en-route - it is a great day out. Alternatively, you could enter to win. Competition is tough and top athletes have set hard times to beat, in each of the disciplines. Each year sees fierce competition for the top places in each category.
The market town of Bishop's Castle offers much in the way of entertainment, accommodation and refreshment. Why not stay and make a weekend of it, or a week even! One committee member liked the town so much, he now lives here!
The event is organised entirely by volunteers from the local community, without whom it would be impossible to stage. There are prizes for the best fancy dress, and fastest local team, alongside the traditional categories within male, female and mixed teams.
For safety reasons, the age restriction is 16, BUT the runner must be aged 18 or over on the day. PLEASE NOTE - we will not be running a junior event this year
As you might have gathered, it doesn't matter how fast or slow you are. There no need to have ever done a triathlon, or entered any other type of race, before. There's a first time for everything!
The entry fee, for this year will be £60 per team (£30 each).
Please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Everyone is welcome but there are limited spaces, so be sure to get your registration in pronto and the date saved in your diary.
